WINNING THE RACE
I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. Ecclesiastes 9:11
Many of us have had experiences that confirm the truth of this verse. All our carefully laid plans have fallen apart; we have watched most of our beautiful dreams crumble and we could not understand why. We had to learn later that the race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, but God apportions the time to every person.
It is not always the strong or the gifted that win; the battle is not always to the strong; natural gifts of speed, strength and intellect are never enough to guarantee triumph. Other factors make the difference – time and chance. There are elements of circumstance that have to fall together even before someone with great abilities can accomplish his or her goals; whether you are the right person, at the right place, at the right time.
Life is not in your control. The world tells you; ‘It is your life! You can live it the way you please.’ But remember that time and chances are in the hands of God. Just when you think you have something under control, it can all fall apart. Disasters come when we least expect them. Life without Christ is always full of crises. Learn to trust God with your choices and be sensitive to the doors He opens to you!
Prayer
Lord, I thank you for this reminder that I am not in control; that I don’t control the outcome of events, but you do. I know that you are in charge of my life and so I hand over all my successes to you. I thank you that with you I excel in Jesus’ name. Amen.
